Singapore Masters Swimming Championships 2017

20171007_210159.jpg
On your left is Clare Mungai and I am on the right.

Beyond Superficial.
Timeless Athletes! With Conventional Wisdom.
Aquatic Pedestrians.

Kenya’s Anne Obure and Clare Mungai will be flying the country’s flag in the Singapore Masters swimming Championships planned for October 29.
Obure, 33, will be making her debut in the event and will feature in three events thus 50m freestyle, 50m breast stroke and 100m breast stroke.
Mungai, on the other hand, will feature in 50m back stroke and breast stroke (50 and 100m).
Mungai, 35, is fresh from featuring in another masters event in New Zealand last April, where she posted personal best times in all her events. She said her target this time round will be to improve on her events. “In New Zealand, I also took part in the 50m butterfly but I will not compete in the event this time round,” she said.
_20171007_210446.jpgObure qualified for the event by virtue of her good time and hopes to win some of her categories. Besides, she said she will be hoping to gather enough experience and exposure during the event as she seeks to form a masters team back at home. “It’s unfortunate that Nairobi Amateur Swimming Association (NASA) no longer cover masters events in their calendar and this is proving hard for those of us who have a passion for swimming,’ she noted.
Obure said they are currently operating under ‘Ogelea Africa Swimming Club’ and would like to make it big after their tour of Singapore. She said they will have to cater for their own travel and accommodation but they are hoping to get sponsors in future events. The two will depart on October 25th via Hong Kong in a bid to have some days to acclimatize.

Work – At – Home Management Tips

Physical Location – Set an office space in one of the corners of the house. Ensure that it’s not facing the door/gate. This way you will be able to minimize on unnecessary distractions.

Facilitation – Make sure you have everything you need within arm’s reach: drinking water, remote control, phones, notebook, pen, laptop, etc.

Organization – Prepare a daily schedule and purpose to stick to it, no matter what. Prepare two kinds; one that is a bit flexible and another, strict.

Communication – Alert all your household members regarding your office hours and make them respect that. Ignore them if they try to breach this rule (These include toddlers – ensure there is someone watching them as you work).

Presentation – Dress up! Look good. Take a shower before getting into the office. Put on make up if that’s your thing.

Reorganization – If you have to attend to anything urgent during your office hours, be sure to make up for the time lost before the next day (if possible) thus avoiding procrastination.

Relaxation – DO NOT exceed your working hours! Overworking is the beginning of your downfall. Take a break whenever you feel you need one (Without allowing indiscipline to creep in). This includes napping as often as possible.

Time Allocation – Like prep and elementary school, break your day into sessons. Here’s an example:

  • 0800hrs – 0900hrs Quiet Time. You may play soft music at the background even as you work.
  • 0900hrs – 1000hrs Recap of the previous day’s tasks.
  • 1000hrs – 1115hrs A start on the current day’s tasks.
  • 1115hrs – 1130hrs Tea/Water break. Roam around the house/compound, checking whether there’s lunch for the home dwellers, making informal calls, etc.
  • 1130hrs – 1400hrs Serious work, formal calls, online research, etc.
  • 1400hrs – 1430hrs Lunch Break (Remember to keep it healthy).
  • 1430hrs – 1700hrs Work, work, work, with lots of 10 minute strolls/naps, ensuring the day’s tasks are completed satisfactorily.

If you’re yet to work on your discipline, set alarms on your phone as well as setting your machine to sleep for the times you’re supposed to be offline. Ensure you take a jog/walk/gym session after the sun goes down. Have a cool down thereafter with family, visit a neighbour, dash to the store, etc. If you’re a night person, get back to your machine after dinner (without an agenda) and let your imagination guide you. If you’re a morning person, get to bed by 2100hrs and wake up earlier than your office hours so as to have time for your day dreaming session.

The most important attribute to have for you to be a successful home worker is discipline! In short, the moment your schedule begins, your house automatically becomes the office you’d have gone to if you weren’t working from home.

Be your own supervisor; Be a stress free supervisee!

That Taut Feeling

Dense Thoughts, Tough Questions,
Not A Coincidence But A Joyous Launch.

It’s the 28th day of the month. This date is synonymous to bill-payments-reminder-day. You are woken up in the morning by a preset alarm on your mobile phone that reads ‘to pay mortgage’. You begin the day by spending some Quiet Time in prayer, but there’s this continuous annoying beep that interrupts your soaking; it’s the noise made by the electricity token machine when your units are about to run out.

Before you’re done, the door bell rings. Usually you do not receive any visitors early in the morning but since the water company realized that most guys leave their houses early so as to beat the traffic jam, they decided to be sending their agents much earlier; that they may register the readings on the water meters. This is a sign of an e-bill about to be sent to you.

You proceed to the shower, just to be stopped midway by your House Manager informing you that she’s not able to prepare your Spanish omelette just as you like it because the gas is finished; your child tagging on you, reminding you of the school trip you’re yet to make payments for! This is where you gasp out loud, ‘I’m finished!’ No, you’re not. Stay calm, breath in, breath out.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Aha! There goes a timely Word from the Holy Spirit. He’s brought you back to a stable mindset. Your focus has now been redirected to the right place. He says to you, “Consider it nothing but Joy, …whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], Lacking In Nothing.” James 1:2-4 [AMP].

Now that you know that you lack nothing, you’re ready to face the day and everything that comes with it. The joy you have chosen to consider, becomes your StrengthNehemiah 8:10. The strength enables you to:

There you go! All you need to do is shift the focus from the nagging need and towards the All Sufficient One. Spend your time giving thanks for everything He has done and is continuing to do, as opposed to grumbling over the pending tasks. Keep reminding yourself over and over again that, furthermore, you are not yours, but His.

You are God’s responsibility,
The apple of His Eye;
You are God’s point of unity,
Where all that you need lies.

The aim of things all happening at the same time is not to overwhelm you but to remind you that in this world, you cannot make it without God – John 15:4-5.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for your strength that comes to replace this taut feeling with unfathomable strength from You by the Power of the Holy Spirit and in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen!

An Audience Of One

His Presence Never Tentative.
I Keep My Focus On My Superhero.

He watches me as I wake up. You see, He already knew that I’d make it to see this day. In fact, He already knows what’s in store for today. Isn’t this reason enough for me to begin my day by spending time with Him? Curious AnneObure would love to sneak a peek into the day’s events, that way, know her lines and follow the script. Only my audience of One can tell me the future before it even happens. Everything He plans will come to pass, for He does whatever He wishes. [Isaiah 46:10 – NLT].

Daily I begin a new slate. Last night before I slept, He reminded me of all the things I was to repent of. This was not easy, considering I was still mad over some.  He said to me, ‘Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Do not let the sun go down on your anger, for this will give a foothold to the devil’ [Ephesians 4:26]. In obedience, I was able to literally have a good night sleep. No nightmares manifested because the devil had nothing on me; neither foot nor toe. That’s why it is easy comprehending His mercies this morning, knowing that my audience of One helped me empty my trash can before I slept.

I begin by acknowledging the fact that:

  • I am not my own. [Acts 20:24]
  • I am not alone. [Isaiah 41:10]
  • The Battle is His. [2 Chronicles 20:15]
  • Victory in mine. [1 Corinthians 15:57]

Thereafter, I lean closer, that I may hear His voice. He says, “My child, I AM bigger than what people say. I AM The Alpha and The Omega; The Beginning and The End. None can compare to Me. Do not put your trust in man [Isaiah 2:22]. If you do, you will fall. However, trust in Me and you will be safe [Proverbs 29:25]. Do you know why you are alive this day? So that you may worship Me [Psalm 146:2].

He goes on by saying, “You are beside Me as a master workman; you are daily My delight. You rejoice before Me and I rejoice in the world, My earth, having My delight in you. [Proverbs 8:30–31] Come, let us prepare today’s work plan. Let us reason together [Isaiah 1:18]. Yesterday we talked about you being A Jack Of All Trades And A Master Of All, as long as you follow My lead. Today’s agenda is as follows:

  • Drive to town. While on the highway, pray for safety; for yourself and for your nation.
  • Once you get to the office, spend some time meeting and greeting your colleagues. Find out if they have any troubling issues and direct them to Me. Share some of your victories with them. That way they will receive the comfort I shared with you and their hearts will be encouraged.
  • Get down to work. Whatever you do, work at it will all of your heart, as though you are working for Me and not for your boss [Colossians 3:23].
  • During your lunch hour, let’s catch up, just in case there were one or two things we missed out in our morning glory. We could take a walk by the garden behind your office as you receive some fresh air and stretch your limbs.
  • Once back from your lunch break, finalize on work so that you do not procrastinate anything. Accomplish all that you can today. We shall talk about tomorrow when it comes [Matthew 6:34]. Feel free to consult with me whenever and wherever you need advice. [Jeremiah 33:3]
  • On your way back home, pass by the market and buy some food for your neighbour. She’s a bit low on cash and could do with some bread. [Isaiah 58:10]
  • When you get back home, relax with the members of your household. Find out how their day was. Share yours with them too. If possible, call a few friends over for tea and fellowship with them. Where two or three of you are gathered in My Name, I’ll be present [Matthew 18:20].

Once you have fed, cleaned up and are ready to end the day, come and tell Me how you feel. Share with Me the challenges you faced. Bring your burdens to Me because I care about you [1 Peter 5:7]. Don’t allow yourself to worry over anything. Come and tell Me what you need, as you thank Me for all that I have done today [Philippians 4:6].”

Wow! It’s as simple as that. This walk is doable. One day at a time. All we need to do is to focus on one thing: An Audience Of One.

Music Corner:

I want to believe that my Superhero is yours too. If not, would you like to meet Him? If the answer is yes, I invite you to say this simple prayer: Dear God, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved (Rom. 10:9). I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for saving me!
In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, feel free to inbox me here and I will guide you as Christ guides me. Alternatively, follow Nations Arise Revival Ministries for Daily Devotions. God bless you. You are officially living before an audience of One: God!

A Jack of All Trades And A Master of All!

A Glorious Discovery!
My Roots.
Am I a doctor? No. I’m more than one. Every time I meet the sick, I get the urge to lay my hands on them and through my obedience, Christ heals them.

“…they shall lay hands upon the sick, and they shall be healed.” Mark 16:18b

Am I a teacher? No. I’m more than one. Spending time reading the Word and in fellowship with God makes me wiser and wiser thus able to impart knowledge to others.

“The Law of the LORD is perfect, restoring life. The testimony of the LORD is steadfast, making foolish people wise.” Psalm 19:7 – ISV

Am I a linguist? No. I’m more than one. The moment I allowed the Holy Spirit to fill me, I began to speak in new languages.

“These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.” Mark 16:17 – NLT.

Am I a heckler? No. I’m more than one. When I Think about the Lord, How He saved me, how He raised me, How He filled me, with the Holy Ghost. How He healed me, to the uttermost, makes me wanna Shout! Hallelujah! (Hillsong United – When I Think About The Lord)

Am I a dancer? No. I’m more than one. God has turned my mourning into dancing. He has lifted my sorrows.

“You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,” Psalm 30:11 – NLT.

Am I an electrician? No, I am more than one. I not only give solutions to power failure problems, but supply the whole earth with electricity!

I am the Light of the world; Like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 – NLT.

Am I an aquatic centre? No. I’m more than one. I flood the Nations with my overflow that’s brought about by my belief in Jesus Christ.

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” John 7:38 – NASB.

Am I a mason? No. I’m more than one. As I encourage others, I am building them up.

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – ESV.

Am I a magician? Far from it! I’m more than one. Everything I touch, prospers; Everything I set out to do, as led by the Holy Spirit, excels.

“The LORD your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand,… For the LORD will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers,” Deuteronomy 30:9 – ESV.

Who am I? A believer! All I have to do is believe. I believe in God the Father, I believe in God the Son, I believe in God the Holy Spirit. All that’s needed is a partnership between God and I. Nothing is impossible with God. Luke 1:37

Believe and you will receive,

Believe and He will reveal Himself to you;

Believe and you will achieve,

All that He has already purposed in you.

Only Believe!

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for enabling me to be all that I ever want to be. Father, help my unbelief. This I ask in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ and by the Power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Peculiar Artist

The Greatest Innovations in the World!
Spectacular!
…A Peculiar People From Above.

“What are you doing?” I asked as he keenly painted very tiny black dots within a red figure. He had just switched from a big brush to a smaller one. This man lived in a house located way above other houses, what you could term as top floor or better still, an attic.

Slowly but surely, the artist completed his drawing and out popped a ladybird, one so beautiful and full of life. It lingered a bit, and finally flew away. You should have seen the look on my face! Never in my thirty something years on planet earth had I witnessed anything close to this: simply unbelievable!

“Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him” Proverbs 8:30 (NASB)

A new sheet was open. This time the theme was black and white, as opposed to the previous colored painting. The artist drew the back side of a man in a split of a second! He was done even before he began. While I still marveled at his immeasurable speed, he embarked on inserting trendy detail on this man’s haircut. Wow! You should have seen how much concentration he put on every stroke, every dot, every cut. As soon as he was done with this magnificent piece, the drawing came to life! Without turning to face us, the figure walked away, down an alley and round the bend. I was concerned, The artist wasn’t.

Face Turned Away.jpg

The artist then casually stood and asked me to follow him.

“Where are we going?” I asked. “Are you not going to teach me more?”

He answered, “It’s now time to rest. Follow me and I will teach you my kind of rest.”

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”….. “And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.” (Genesis 1:26; 2:2)

We left the studio, down a long flight of stairs and onto a road, kinda like a street within an estate. We came to this ordinary looking shack and a huge guy opened for us the door. Although we didn’t enter but conversed with him at his patio, I could tell that these two had a good relationship; a father – son relationship. The resemblance was also quite evident: very polished.

Father asked son, “How do you manage to remain composed, knowing that your little brother lives on the ground floor of your building, in the assembly of thugs, yet you still come to intercede on his behalf?”

“Who is the one condemning? For it is Christ Jesus, the one having died, now rather having been raised up, who is also at the right hand of God, and who is interceding for us.” Romans 8:34.

The artist began to cry as he was deeply moved. Immediately, another look – alike appeared, this time round, a lady. She embraced him for a very long time, leaving me in an awkward position. All I wondered was how I could help this family reconcile with their son, brother, friend. That is when I woke up! A dream so real, I can still see, hear, feel, smell and touch the encounter.

Here’s The Key:

Dream Analogy Reality
Canvas Universe
Attic Heaven
Ground Floor Earth
Artist/Son God The Word – Jesus Christ
Father God the Father
Lady God The Holy Spirit
Little Brother Lost Man
Me Saved Man

Prayer: Father, thank You for the clear reminder. Help us Oh Lord not to come to You with questions on why the world is the way it is, but rather teach us Your kind of rest. Forgive us for the times we have walked away from You after receiving our blessings. Teach us to walk in Your ways. As we are on earth, may we learn to do only the things that we see You do in heaven. Jesus we thank You for continuously interceding for us. You have remained faithful to us even after we abandoned your teachings (The Word). Holy Spirit, without You we cannot make it. You have been our Comforter (2 Cor 1:4), wiping our tears and holding us close. Thank You for leading us to the Artist. Thank You for the dreams and visions. Thank You for the spiritual gifts in whole. Here we are, ready to learn Your kind of rest. Father Lead us in the Name of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior and by the Power of the Holy Spirit we pray and believe, Amen.

“For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your sons will find compassion before those who led them captive and will return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.” (2 Chronicles 30:9)
